What is it?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

This initiative aims to support organisations and artists who work with older people and to promote best practice. Recently, we have been working with Dance Ireland and Dance Theatre of Ireland to support the development of a dance network for older people, culminating in The Floor is Yours! yearly networking events. Read more on our Artists\u2019 Professional Development Training page.<\/a><\/p>\n

We\u2019ve also been working with Tipperary, Clare and Roscommon arts offices to deliver \u2018Speed meeting for slow art\u2019 \u2013 creative networking for artists and organisations who work with older people. This initiative aims to match artists and arts organisations wishing to work with older people through a meet, greet and exchange initiative.\u00a0Read more here.<\/a> If you would like to bring this initiative to your county, please get in touch<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In order to foster connection between industry and audience, we have launched our year-round Arts Events Listings service on our\u00a0Bealtaine website<\/a>. Read more here.<\/a><\/p>\n

How does it work?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Typically we work with an industry partner with a shared interest in prioritising the engagement of older people, while raising the standards of practice in that area. We also invite submissions to our online listings for any event that might be of interest to our audience.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n

We believe that, whether you are 8 or 80 years old, we all should have access and opportunities to attend and participate in the arts and to realise our creative potential. Fresh thinking, bold experimentation and creativity are all fundamental to delivering a high quality of life for older people<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>

Research shows that arts programmes involving music, visual arts and drama, among other activities, have a profound influence on the quality of life of older people, with positive impacts on health, psychological well-being, confidence and autonomy as well as other benefits such as:<\/span><\/p>

  • mental wellbeing<\/span><\/strong><\/li>
  • reduced stress<\/span><\/strong><\/li>
  • improved cognition<\/span><\/strong><\/li>
