We have a network of trained PALs around the country.<\/p>\n<p>Our Physical Activity Leaders initiative also encompasses our CarePALs and PPALs initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>Our CarePALs initiative trains those working or volunteering in nursing homes and day care settings to lead suitable physical activities with people in their care. Our PPALs initiative trains older adults with intellectual disability to take a leadership role promoting physical activity among their peers.<\/p>\n<p>Our research has shown that older person\u2019s groups and their associated Physical Activity Leaders (PALs) were severely impacted by the debilitating effects of the pandemic. However, it also shows that hundreds of PALs (within community and residential care settings) across the country, have returned to leading physical activity in their groups.<\/p>\n<p>Supporting our PALs, revitalising their groups and the strengthening and expansion of our PALs network are key strategic priorities for us over the next three years and M\u00e1ire\u2019s role as PALs Coordinator is a key part of this strategy.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00e1ire has always had a keen interest in people\u2019s health and wellbeing. She has an undergraduate degree in Nutritional Science and holds a Masters in Public Health where she focused on health promotion.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to working with Age &amp; Opportunity M\u00e1ire worked across many different fields from teaching to health promotion as well as being a manager in the HSE.
